From the Desk of
Candidate Questionnaires - D3 Primary

A Special Election has been called to fill a vacancy on the San José City Council for District 3, which includes Downtown, Japantown, SoFA, and other neighborhoods that play critical roles in our creative community. This is an opportunity for advocates to have an impact on who makes the decisions on arts and culture policy at City Hall.
With that in mind, SJAA developed a questionnaire that we shared with all seven official candidates. Candidates were given one month to respond to a number of questions about their backgrounds, viability, perspectives on arts and culture, and positions on SJAA advocacy priorities.
We’re sharing their (unedited) responses so you can get to know them a little better. See below to download their questionnaires and visit their websites for more information. (Please note: The deadline for submission was Feb. 21, but some responses were received as early as Jan. 30.)
FYI: Ballots for the April 8 Primary Election will be mailed to voters in early March. Not sure if you live in District 3? You can look it up here.
